<Toilet Talk>는 퍼포먼스의 감각 발현 지점, 퍼포먼스와 관객(참여자)의 관계, 관객의 주체성 확장에 대한 관객 참여형 퍼포먼스이다. 이 작품은 퍼포머가 화장실에 갇혔고 스마트폰 사용이 불가(또는 데이터가 차단) 하다는 설정에서 시작한다. 화장실 에 갇힌 퍼포머는 변기에 앉아 무료함, 밀폐된 공간의 초조함을 해결하기 위해 자신의 스마트폰 갤러리에 들어가 사진을 구경한다. 눈과 손은 빠르게 움직이며 누군가에 게 말하듯 사진에 대한 설명을 중얼거린다. 퍼포머와 문 너머의 관객(참여자)은 실제 렌즈 너머인 가상의 문을 사이에 두고 대화를 이어간다. 작가는 인터랙티브 설치를 통해 실제 참여자에게 말을 걸고 실시간으로 대화를 하며 이야기를 이끈다. 이 작품은 화장실에서 편안함을 느낀다는 현대인의 익명성, 자신만의 공간, 그럼에도 대화를 시도하는 작가의 말 걸기이다.
'Toilet Talk' is an audience-participatory performance that serves as the nexus of sensory expression in performance art, exploring the relationship between the performer and the audience (participants), and the expansion of the audience's subjectivity. The premise of this work begins with the performer being confined in a restroom where smartphone usage is either unavailable or restricted (e.g., no data connectivity). Seated on the toilet, the performer, seeking to alleviate the sense of confinement and the anxiety of being in an enclosed space, delves into their smartphone gallery to browse through photos. As their eyes and hands swiftly move, they murmur descriptions of the photos, speaking as if addressing someone. The performer and the audience (participants) on the other side of the door continue a conversation through an imaginary door, as if speaking through a virtual barrier. Through an interactive installation, the artist engages in real-time conversations, initiating dialogue with the actual participants.This piece encapsulates the attempt by the artist to engage in conversation despite the sense of anonymity and personal space experienced by contemporary individuals who find comfort in the privacy of a restroom. It embodies the artist's endeavor to initiate dialogue even within such a private and comfortable space.
